Legislative Framework To Follow Once Sports Fund Levy Bill Secures Parliamentary Approval – Sports Minister

Minister of Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams has stated that processes to pass a bill for the establishment of a sports fund backed by a levy approved by parliament will be adhered to.
He made this known in an interview where he shared that the lack of a sports fund has hindered sports development in the country. (Click highlighted text to read full story)
The Sports Minister made these comments at the event of the University for Development Studies (UDS)’ presentation of its World University Games Football Trophy to President John Mahama at the Jubilee House.
UDS beat Brazil’s Paulista University 2-1 to win the football competition at this year’s World University Games held in Dalian, China.
On the sports fund, the Sports Minister reiterated that a levy needs to be established to sustain the fund but the levy must be passed by parliament first.
Sports Minister Kofi Adams
“You can’t establish a fund without a levy; surely every fund must have a form of a levy that contributes into the fund I can’t specifically say what levy would be approved by Parliament or not.”
President John Mahama
“The bill will be laid in parliament when parliament resumes and parliament will go through the processes to get the act passed and once it’s passed a legislation will be developed” he said.
