Legendary broadcaster Bob Costas makes special NBA cameo

ST. LOUIS — A voice familiar to St. Louis sports fans could be heard during Tuesday night’s NBA games. Bob Costas, the longtime broadcaster who got his start right here in St. Louis made a special cameo in a preview ahead of Tuesday’s doubleheader between the Knicks and Bucks, and later, the Clippers and Warriors. Costas, a broadcasting legend who got his big break at KMOX in the 70s, became known for his openings during basketball coverage in the 1990s and early 2000s. His return to NBA broadcasts brought back that same mix of history and drama that made him so memorable to fans. The hit of nostalgia was part of the NBA's return to NBC, which was secured through a new media rights deal starting with the 2025–2026 season. NBC outbid Warner Bros. Discovery (the parent company of TNT) for the rights to air NBA games, which is why the NBA is no longer shown on TNT after 36 years. It’s still uncertain if the special cameo was just a one-off thing for the NBA’s return to NBC, or if we’ll hear more of his iconic voice before games this season.
