DETROIT - The next time you attend a Lions, Pistons, Red Wings or Tigers game, you may want to leave your tobacco products at home. According to reports from WXYZ and WJBK, Detroit City Council voted 7-2 in favor of an ordinance banning smokeless tobacco usage at sports venues in the city. The ban is not only for fans, but for players and coaches as well. According WJBK, violators will first receive a warning and be asked to stop. Any violation after that will result in a $100 fine. If caught again, a $500 fine will be enforced. The smokeless tobacco ban includes things like chewing tobacco, dip and nicotine pouches like Zyn. WJBK says because the vote was 2/3 majority, the ordinance is now in effect.
