LANSING, MI – The state attorney general has filed a lawsuit alleging that a Kent City lawn care business took advance payments or deposits but did little or no work.
Attorney General Dana Nessel on Wednesday, Sept. 24, announced the lawsuit, filed in Ingham County Circuit Court, against Calton’s Lawn Care and the owners, Aron and Leslie Calton.
Nessel said the owners ignored or blocked customers who sought refunds. The lawsuit alleges violations of the Michigan Consumer Protection Act. It asks that the company be dissolved with customers reimbursed for their losses.
The lawsuit states that the company also used the Facebook page ‘Lake Michigan Pool’ to conduct business with West Michigan customers.
“Companies cannot fail to provide the services they promised after accepting deposits or ignore rightful requests for refunds,” Nessel said in a statement.
“My office will hold businesses accountable for engaging in these unfair practices.”
She said that the Consumer Protection Team has secured over $16 million in recoveries and taken 10,000 consumer complaints this year.
The team can be reached at P.O. Box 30213, Lansing, MI 48909, or by phone at 517-335-7599. For more information, visit their website.
