Lawmakers begin Second Ordinary Session

The Parliament of Vanuatu will officially commence its Second Ordinary Session at 8:30 a.m. today, continuing the nation’s legislative calendar for the year. Speaker Stephen Felix formally summoned the sitting on 22 October, calling all 51 Members of Parliament (MPs) to attend and deliberate the bills scheduled for debate during this session. The bills listed include the Bill for the Appropriation (2026) Act No. of 2025, Bill for the Digital Transformation Act No. of 2025, Bill for the Government Remuneration Tribunal (Amendment) Act No. of 2025, Bill for the Political Parties (Amendment) Act No. of 2025, and Bill for the Public Land Transport (Amendment) Act No. of 2025. The Appropriation (2026) Bill will be one of the key items of the session, allowing each minister to present and justify their 2026 budget allocations for their respective ministries and portfolios. All 51 MPs have been summoned to attend the session, with the exception of MP Seoule Simeon, who remains absent pending the verdict of his Court of Appeal case. After the conclusion of this sitting, the Parliament of Vanuatu will proceed to its biannual recess, marking the end of the legislative business for this term before resuming in the next parliamentary calendar.
