Todd prepares for a funeral (Picture: ITV) There’s work stress for Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) in upcoming Coronation Street episodes as he and George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley) prepare for a lavish funeral for a local Weatherfield dignitary. It comes at a difficult time in Todd’s personal life, as his partner Theo Silverton (James Cartwright) is currently out of work. Theo and Gary (Mikey North) had been hoping for a lucrative building contract with a man called Pete (Andrew Hayden-Smith), but Theo ruined this by sleeping with Pete in a bid to upset Todd. He then reacted aggressively towards Pete at work, with the result that Pete decided to take his business elsewhere. Over the past few weeks, Theo’s behaviour towards Todd has become more overtly controlling and abusive. As well as sleeping with Pete, Theo has tried to isolate Todd from his friends, particularly Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank). He’s also become physically violent, force-feeding a kebab into Todd’s mouth one time and pouring milk over his head on a more recent occasion, both acts designed to humiliate and belittle Todd. He also gaslights him by trying to pass these things off as a joke. Theo’s night with Pete, designed to hurt Todd has also scuppered his working life (Picture: ITV) Todd is currently walking on eggshells around his boyfriend. You can see the fear and stress in his eyes when Theo appears, with Todd trying to predict what kind of mood Theo might be in and appease him before trouble can start. ‘Todd has really anchored his own moods to what mood he’s going to get from Theo day to day,’ Gareth Pierce explained. ‘He’s trying constantly to anticipate things that Theo might get riled about to avoid a situation like the kebab scene where it really boiled over. When Theo enters the room straight away he’s back in that tense, people pleasing, anticipatory kind of headspace.’ With Todd so busy organising the funeral, Theo resents the time he’s spending at work, particularly given the fact that Theo is currently not getting much work himself. Todd and Theo clash again (Picture: Danielle Baguley/ITV) Will Todd back down to Theo again? (Picture: Danielle Baguley/ITV) There’s a glimmer of hope for Theo when Gary tells him that, despite everything that happened, Pete has offered him a contract. He suggests that Todd could perhaps try to smooth things over with Pete. Todd previously confronted Pete for sleeping with Theo, an encounter that put the seal on Pete’s decision not to work with Theo in the future. So Gary hopes that if Todd tries to make amends with Pete he could also offer Theo some work. Given everything that happened between Theo and Pete, will Todd agree? And if he doesn’t, how dangerous could it be for him once Theo realises it was Todd’s fault that he lost the chance of some work?
