Las Vegas is rolling out the red carpet for its remarkable citizens once again, opening nominations for the 2026 African American Trailblazer Service Awards that spotlight those making significant strides in the community. With categories covering business, politics, education, leadership, and spiritual contribution, the awards are set to honor individuals driving positive change in Las Vegas. Details for submissions and the requisite forms can be found on the city’s website, with a deadline poised for October 17, 2025, at 5 p.m. PDT.
Councilwoman Shondra Summers-Armstrong is championing these awards, which celebrate local heroes who exceed expectations in their dedication to the community. She said, “I hope you will join me to nominate those deserving of recognition,” as mentioned on the City of Las Vegas’s official government website. To be considered for an award, one cannot nominate themselves, and nominators are restricted to recommending only one individual across any of the five categories. No longer will a biography suffice, as nominees must shine across an array of metrics noted in the nomination form.
Among the awards, the business and economic advancement category acknowledges entrepreneurs who exemplify innovation and dedication to the local market, while serial activists and political figures can expect to see recognition for their influence on public policy and community advocacy. Those in the field of education could be honored for their role in empowering and preparing students, and the Tyrone Thompson Emerging Leader Award aims to spotlight blossoming leaders with a foresight for creative solutions and influence.
The awards also extend to spiritual leaders who foster collective growth and interfaith cooperation within the city, and the presentation of these awards is slated for January 22, 2026, between 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., at the Las Vegas City Hall Council Chambers, this event forms part of the broader celebration of Black History Month, the annual tradition that continues to echo the achievements and contributions of African Americans in society. This is the 12th instance of the accolades, following a history of recognizing and encouraging civic engagement and excellence in the Las Vegas area.
