The City of Las Vegas is rolling out a new grant initiative aimed at beefing up security for businesses in key redevelopment areas. Companies can now tap into a financial lifeline of up to $5,000 to enhance their security provisions, ensuring that they’re not just a sitting duck when it comes to break-ins or theft. The initiative is dubbed the Business Security Program, and it’s taking applications online for those who want to get in on the action.
For business owners eyeing to shore up their premises, the program’s got a host of upgrades that can be covered by the grant. This includes the addition of permanent fencing, security cameras on the exterior, beefier locks, and even shatter-proof security glass, according to an announcement on the city’s official site. It’s a first-come, first-served affair, so you’ll want to jump on it before funds dry up.
To snag this grant, there are a couple of boxes to check off. For starters, your business needs to plant its flag within the confines of one of two designated redevelopment areas in Las Vegas. One stretches 3,948 acres wide, including downtown Las Vegas and areas around Charleston Boulevard, Martin L. King Jr. Boulevard, and Eastern Avenue. The second covers a neat 1,050 acre-patch from Sahara Avenue up to U.S. 95/I-11. Plus, your business has got to have an active license issued by the city.
Not everyone will qualify for this cash boost. Properties excluded include single-family and multi-family residential units (unless part of a mixed-use project) and businesses with non-restricted gaming licenses. Restaurants, however, may be eligible. Each storefront is limited to one grant, which also affects properties with multiple retail spaces or vacant units.
