An angry pub landlady has accused the pub owners of selling the premises behind her back after a large fire . Angela Scott ran the Queens Hotel in Blaenau Ffestiniog, which was owned by brewery Admiral Taverns, for years and recently thought someone was breaking into the building in the Gwynedd town’s high street before realising her beloved business had been sold without her knowledge. The person she believed was breaking into the premises had actually recently bought it which Angela said she knew nothing about. Angela, who claimed she had first dibs on the building should Admiral Taverns wish to sell it, said overnight she became homeless. Admiral Taverns denied any agreement was in place between them and Angela. For the biggest stories in Wales first sign up to our daily newsletter . The ex-landlady said it came after a fire – the cause of which is still to be ascertained – ripped through the building in July. After the fire she said she spent money rebuilding the business which she had been living in. Angela lived at the premises with her daughter Jade while several people on Gwynedd council’s housing waiting list were also living there prior to the blaze. Angela claimed she had invested £50,000 in the pub, which she felt would be a “legacy” for her family to take on, while the community in the town had rallied to fundraise for Angela and her family. But in an impassioned message to locals she said that had now been for nothing. Angela claimed after the fire happened she was asked to “sign away the lease” which she did. She said she believed that was “the only way to stop legal action from piling up”. “It turns out they’d already sold it,” she claimed. She claimed she didn’t find out that the pub had been sold by the brewery and instead found out from “a man in the street saying he’d bought it”. “We’ve now been left homeless, without answers, and with the horrifying realisation that the company who promised transparency sold everything out from under us while we were still grieving. “We were actioning plans to buy the Queens to create something incredible for the community. We’ve lost our home, jobs, and possessions in one brutal blow.” A spokesman for Admiral Taverns told WalesOnline: “We can confirm that the freehold of the Queens Hotel, Blaenau Ffestiniog, has been sold to an experienced investor in public houses of this nature. “Following a thorough review of our options after the fire in July 2025 it became clear that reinvestment in the site by Admiral Taverns was not sustainable and we believe this sale represents the most appropriate way forward. “Throughout this difficult period we have worked closely with the licensee to provide support and have liaised with the fire service and structural engineers to ensure the site remains safe.”
