Primary-school pupils living across Michel Shanks’ Rutherglen parliamentary constituency are being invited to enter a competition to design the MP’s Christmas card. The politician is running the annual contest for a third year, with the winning creation set to feature on his official festive greeting which will be sent to thousands of people and organisations across the constituency, as well as recipients including the Prime Minister. Young artists have until November 7 to send in their entries – and are being encouraged to include landmarks and local features from the constituency, which includes Cambuslang, Blantyre and Uddingston. Mr Shanks is asking primary pupils to “showcase their creativity”, with a number of runners-up also having their artwork featured inside the card to be sent across the constituency. He said: “I know it still feels a little early to be talking about Christmas, but I’m really excited to launch this year’s competition – the talent and creativity shown by young people in previous years has been fantastic, and I’m looking forward to seeing even more fantastic entries this time around.” A prizegiving event will be held in December to celebrate the winners and recognise the efforts of all who take part. Designs can be based on any festive or Christmas theme, and the MP’s office say; “Pupils are encouraged to be as imaginative as possible including finding ways to feature local constituency landmarks in their cards.” Entrants are also asked to avoid using glitter in their artwork. Designs should be delivered by 12 noon on November 7 to Mr Shanks’ constituency office at Aspire business centre, 16 Farmeloan Road, Rutherglen G73 1DL; and schools can arrange for entries to be collected by contacting the MP’s office directly. * Don't miss the latest headlines from around Lanarkshire.
