The Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Miami Heat 130-120 on Sunday, led by Luka Doncic’s triple-double (29 points, 11 rebounds, 10 assists) and fifth-year guard Austin Reaves, who recorded 26 points and 11 assists. The Lakers were up by 14 points at halftime and led the entire game, playing behind Doncic and Reaves, along with supporting help from forward Jake LaRavia (25 points off the bench) and center Jaxson Hayes (season-high 15 points). Third-year forward Jamie Jaquez Jr. led the way for the Heat with 31 points, while veteran center Bam Adebayo and guard Pelle Larsson each added 17 points. It turned into a competitive game down the stretch, but the play that arguably stole the show came when Reaves tossed a lob to Bronny James late in the first quarter for his lone score of the night. After the game, Reaves told reporters, “I’ve got to be the first person in NBA history to throw a father a lob and a son a lob,” referencing his past connections with LeBron James. This includes a career-high 51 points (with 11 rebounds, nine assists) against the Sacramento Kings on Oct. 26, followed by a 41-point outburst against the Portland Trail Blazers one night later. The Lakers now sit at the top of the Pacific division standings with a 5-2 record (No. 3 in the Western Conference), thanks largely to Reaves and Doncic as LeBron remains sidelined with sciatica (the team is eyeing a mid-November return date). Still carving out an NBA role, Bronny has averaged 0.5 points, 1.3 assists, and 1.0 steals in 11.5 minutes per game this season after appearing in just 27 regular-season contests last year. However, his 18 minutes against the Heat were the second-highest total of the season so far and could be a sign of things to come. Bronny’s next chance to build on this performance will come on Monday night as the Lakers travel to Moda Center to face the Trail Blazers, before returning back home on Wednesday to play the San Antonio Spurs at Crypto.com Arena.
