La Mistelera: a hub of live music and community spirit in La Xara

This October and November, La Mistelera in La Xara continues to bring an exciting mix of live music, creativity, and community energy to the Marina Alta region. On Friday, October 31, the venue welcomes French funk outfit Litige, alongside Xaman, local funk-rockers Fardatxo, and Mal-Fatal. Doors open at 10.30pm, with tickets priced at just €10 — a night of high-energy grooves not to be missed. As always, La Mistelera keeps the music flowing every Sunday with its open jam session, taking place on November 2 from 8.30pm. Musicians of all abilities are invited to join in, whether you play guitar, drums, saxophone or simply enjoy improvising. A full house band provides support, creating a relaxed and welcoming space for collaboration and spontaneous musical magic. The following week, on November 8, punk rock fans are in for a treat with a concert featuring four high-octane bands, promising a night of raw energy and classic rebellion. A cornerstone of grassroots culture in the Costa Blanca But La Mistelera is far more than just a music venue. Operating as a CSA (Centro Social Autogestionado) for over a decade, it has become a cornerstone of grassroots culture in the region. Founded by a collective of artists, neighbours and activists, the centre aims to foster cultural exchange, self-organisation and community empowerment. Beyond concerts and DJ nights, La Mistelera offers workshops, talks, theatre performances and support networks — all guided by horizontal decision-making and a strong ecological ethos. Its terrace and garden, adorned with murals, upcycled furniture and shaded trees, provide a unique and intimate setting for summer events that blend local creativity with global sounds. From poetry readings and political debates to film screenings and immersive workshops, La Mistelera continues to champion artistic expression and alternative culture. Nestled just outside Denia, this self-managed social centre remains a vibrant and inclusive space where music, art and community come together in perfect harmony. For anyone seeking a lively, grassroots cultural experience in the Marina Alta, La Mistelera is a must-visit destination.
