Snooker star Kyren Wilson has heartbreakingly admitted to a “torrid time” away from the snooker table that has seen his wife embroiled in a battle with her health. Wilson, 33, is currently at the top of the sport. He sits at second in the world , having won the World Championship in 2024 and the Shanghai Masters this season. But Wilson has recently undergone a difficult period at the table. He suffered early exits from the Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters, the Wuhan Open and the English Open , as well as the British Open. But his troubles haven’t just been limited to snooker. Wilson has also opened up on a tough period at home, with his wife Sophie having undergone treatment for illness. Wilson said: “I’ve had a bit of a torrid time off the table. “My wife has been very poorly so I’ve not really played snooker for the best part of four or five weeks now. I think she’s coming up to about six weeks of recovery tomorrow, so I feel like my snooker is slowly coming back. “I’ve started to put a bit more time in, I can focus a bit more on my game. As a result, hopefully you start seeing the results that you’ve been used to. “It was a last-minute decision to come out to China. It kind of did my head in a little bit – it’s not nice knowing that someone is going to be on the operating table while you’re going to hit some snooker balls around. “But that’s the sort of sacrifice that me and my family are willing to make to be successful at this game. Sometimes you’ve just got to make sure that your head is clear and thankfully now I feel like I’m getting there.” Who will win the Xi’an Grand Prix? Share your predictions in the comments below Wilson and his wife have been together since 2009 and married in 2016. The pair share two children – Finley and Baily. Sophie previously had a stroke and underwent surgery while her husband was playing in Wuhan earlier this year. And while she is now on the road to recovery, Wilson will also hope the same could be true of him when it comes to his form. He is currently in action at the Xi’an Grand Prix, where he beat Haris Tahir in the opening round. Wilson comes into the tournament in positive form. He hit a maximum 147 during his clash with Mark Williams at the recent Chinese Billiards and Snooker Association Superstar Invitational.
