In a bid to resolve the prolonged dispute over the construction of the Nkawkaw Stadium, Kwahuhene Daasebre Akuamuah Boateng III has paid a courtesy call on the Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah. The meeting aimed to mediate between the Authority and businessman Bryan Acheampong to ensure the resumption of development works at the stadium.
In June, construction at the stadium was reportedly halted after the NSA requested legal documentation related to the project. At the time, the NSA boss insisted that work could resume once all construction guidelines were followed and the necessary approvals were secured.
Speaking to the press after the meeting, Daasebre Akuamuah Boateng III said that, as the traditional leader of the area, he had a duty to ensure the project was completed properly.
“He has really briefed us, and we understand his point. As a traditional authority, we have offered to mediate so that, whatever the case, the master plan designed from 2008 to 2022 comes to fruition,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mr Ampofo Ankrah reiterated his willingness to cooperate to ensure work resumes once the required conditions are met by Abetifi MP Bryan Acheampong. He said he was honoured by the visit from the Kwahuhene and his delegation, adding that projects like the Nkawkaw Stadium were part of the NSA’s broader development agenda.
The Kwahuhene was accompanied by the Mpraeso Kontihene, Nana Abra Appiah, veteran football administrator Mr Oduro Nyarko, and members of a legal team.
