The relatives of the victims of the bus mishap at Kurnool will have to wait for three days for DNA test results to identify the charred remains of the deceased. Andhra Pradesh Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav has on Saturday told newspersons that the collection of DNA samples was completed and the results could not be obtained before three days as per the laboratory procedure. A Bengaluru-bound sleeper bus from Hyderabad operated by V Kaveri Travels caught fire on the National Highway-44 at Chinnatekur near Kurnool near Kurnool in the wee hours Friday in which 19 passengers were burnt alive while 23 jumped to safety. According to police, the mishap occurred when the bus hit a bike on the road and caught fire due to the impact. As per the latest update, the bus hit a bike which fell on the road due another accident a few minutes earlier. The biker, B. Siva Shankar, also died due to injuries. Two drivers of the ill-fated have been arrested by the police and a case has been registered and police are investigating further. The officials of the transport department had conducted surprise checks on the vehicles being operated by the private travels in the both the states and seized over 75 buses for violation of safety norms such as blockade of emergency doors, absence of hammers to be kept for breaking the glasses in emergency and lack of valid fitness certificates apart from non-payment of required taxes.
