Kurnool bus accident: APFSL submit DNA reports of deceased

Officials of the Andhra Pradesh Forensic Science Laboratory (APFSL) submitted the DNA reports of the passengers, who died in the private travels bus tragedy in Kurnool. “We have sent the DNA reports of 18 victims, who were charred to death in the bus fire accident, near Chinna Tekur village, on Kurnool outskirts,” said APFSL Director G. Pala Raju. “After matching the DNA samples and bones with the blood samples of the family members of the deceased, the DNA reports were submitted to the investigation officers of Kurnool district,” he told The Hindu on Sunday (October 26, 2025). A team of forensic experts matched 18 DNA samples in just nine hours, which were sent to the Kurnool police, who will hand over the bodies to the bereaved family members, the APFSL Director said. “As the bodies were reduced to ashes in flames, we took utmost care in matching the DNA samples. APFSL officials matched the blood samples of the family members with the bones of the deceased,” Mr. Raju explained. The physical and chemical analysis teams will begin examining the 83 samples collected from the bus, which went up in flames. The process will begin on Monday, he said. “A detailed analysis of the reasons for the outbreak of fire, spread of flames to other parts of the ill-fated bus, reasons for explosion in the burnt bus and other issues will be taken up,” Mr. Raju said.
