Rapper Sarkodie has described the outpouring of support he received in Kumasi during his Rapperholic Homecoming on September 28 as one of the most moving moments of his career.
Speaking on Opemsuo Radio’s Oseikrom Kwanso with Mac De President, the rapper said he was humbled by the massive turnout at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium and the warm reception from Asanteman. According to him, the Ashanti Region made him feel truly at home.
“Kumasi took very good care of me.”
The BET award winner revealed that he had been unwell in the days leading up to the show and even feared he might not make it in time. He admitted he never expected such huge numbers, especially after heavy rains threatened to disrupt the event.
“I knew people would come because of the energy—I felt it even when I was in Accra—but not in these numbers. Sark Nation and Kumasi did a lot of work; you all did all the interviews that I would have had to do, so the information was out there. I knew people would come, but I truthfully didn’t expect such overflowing numbers. What I saw made me realize that Asanteman has shown me so much love.”
Sarkodie credited the people of Kumasi, including fans, the media, bloggers, and content creators, for rallying behind the concert and selling it out. He explained that while his presence mattered, the collective effort of the city was what made the show a resounding success.
“The love I received from Kumasi was beyond my expectations,” he said, adding that the event proved the city has the passion and energy to sustain major shows. He further called for greater investment in Kumasi’s entertainment infrastructure to match its potential.
