All educational institutions in the Kumasi Metropolis will be closed next Thursday, in accordance with the funeral rites for the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III.
In a similar vein, all offices, including banks and other financial institutions, will also be closed on that significant day.
Furthermore, there will be a complete halt to commercial activities within Kumasi, as all shops are required to close as well.
This information was included in a detailed program announced by the Chairman of the Funeral Planning Committee, Nana Effah Appenteng, during a media briefing held on Friday in anticipation of the four-day funeral rites for the late queen mother.
The funeral rites are scheduled to commence on Monday, September 14, and conclude on Thursday, September 18, 2025.
Filing past the body from Monday to Wednesday will take place from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m., while Otumfuo Osei Tutu will also be in state during the same timeframe from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
On Thursday, September 18, the filing past will begin at 5 a.m. and continue until 11 a.m., followed by the burial service at 3 p.m. at Dwabrem, located at the Manhyia Palace.
All mourners and visitors wishing to pay their respects to the Queen Mother’s body are expected to show the necessary respect and dignity, with females prohibited from wearing headgear and jewelry.
Nana Appenteng has advised the public to remain indoors throughout the night on Thursday, September 18, as the Asantehemaa will be transported to the Bantama Mausoleum (Ban mu), and subsequently to the Breman Mausoleum for burial.
He also cautioned mourners against taking photographs while passing by the remains of the Asantehemaa, emphasizing that such actions would breach the customs and traditions of Asanteman. He urged everyone to adhere strictly to the regulations governing the rites in honor of the Asantehemaa.
Additionally, he warned that anyone caught violating this directive by taking videos or pictures of the Asantehemaa would face severe consequences.
He additionally encouraged media personnel to obtain accreditation tags to facilitate access to designated areas, cautioning that unaccredited individuals would not be allowed in specific sections of the grounds.
Nana Effah Appenteng, who also holds the title of Paramount Chief of the Bompata Traditional Area, declared that large screens would be installed at key locations within the Palace to allow everyone to view the event and to deter mourners from lingering at the venue.
