Five young people were injured during a stampede at the ongoing Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) screening exercise at Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Wednesday, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has confirmed. Dr. Amoakohene stated that the victims sustained various injuries and are currently receiving medical care. “I have directed that they receive the best possible medical attention and full support to aid their recovery,” he said in a statement released on Wednesday, November 12, 2025. Describing the incident as unfortunate, the Minister assured the public that measures would be implemented to prevent similar occurrences in future recruitment or screening exercises. “We deeply regret this incident and will ensure that all future recruitment and screening exercises are conducted in a safe, orderly, and humane manner,” he added. Dr. Amoakohene extended his sympathy to the injured and their families, emphasizing that the regional administration’s priority is the full recovery and wellbeing of those affected. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the individuals and their families,” he said. The GAF is currently conducting nationwide recruitment and screening exercises across all 16 regions. The Kumasi stampede follows a tragic incident at El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra, where six people died and several others were injured, prompting a Board of Inquiry and the temporary suspension of recruitment activities in the Greater Accra Region.
