After the success of its first double-decker tourist bus service in Munnar, the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is all set to launch another double-decker service in the hill station.
On Thursday, the KSRTC resumed the service of the first bus, which was temporarily suspended after it rammed a waiting shed near Devikulam on September 12.
Huge success
KSRTC Budget Tourism Cell Munnar Coordinator V.S. Bijumon said that the repair work on the bus was completed on an emergency basis and the service was resumed. “The service is a huge success and is providing substantial income to the KSRTC, and we are receiving many enquiries for the service.”
The service had emerged as one of the major tourist attractions in Munnar, he said.
“The schedule, route and other details of the second service will be announced soon,” said a KSRTC official.
The KSRTC launched the glass-panelled ‘Royal View’ double-decker bus for tourists in Munnar in February. It is designed to provide a 360° view of the tea plantations and high ranges for the passengers. The bus has a seating capacity of 38 on the upper deck and 12 on the lower deck. The bus runs on the Munnar-Anayirankal route.
Driver suspended
The KSRTC suspended K.P. Muhammed, a driver attached to the its Munnar depot, in connection with the recent accident. The front portion of the bus was damaged as it hit the waiting shed. A probe by the Chairman and Managing Director of the KSRTC revealed that negligence on the part of the driver led to the accident.
