The Veronica Mars star recently took to social media to share a rather bizarre quote that her husband once said to her to signal true love. “Happy 12th wedding anniversary to the man who once said to me: ‘I would never kill you. A lot of men have killed their wives at a certain point. Even though I’m heavily incentivised to kill you, I never would. ️’” The caption was accompanied by a loved-up snap of the couple embracing. The anniversary post was intended to be a lighthearted joke about how no realistic relationship is perfect, and many of the star’s celebrity pals appreciated the quirk. “Super sweet of him!” actress Kimberly Williams-Paisley commented. Sarah Silverman also added: “Oh I love this picture.” And a good chunk of the actress’ 15.8 million followers also appreciated her twisted sense of humour and raw honesty. However, for many of her followers, the caption posted with the anniversary snap was deemed a little irresponsible given it coincided with domestic violence awareness month around the globe. “1. Congratulations! 2. I know the caption is supposed to be cute, funny, but worldwide a women is killed every ten minutes by their partner,” one person commented. “That’s a wildly sad and insensitive thing to say considering it’s domestic violence awareness month and thousands of women have died a the hands of the man they trusted,” another offended fan wrote. And another echoed: “Domestic violence isn’t a joke.” Others agreed, criticising the Nobody Wants This star’s choice of words given how influential she is. “Dark humour and rage baiting is a thing. But this is not it. Read the room hun. That’s offensive,” someone slammed. “This quote??? That’s a real choice,” another agreed. Kristen, 45, and Dax, 50, first met at a dinner party held for Forgetting Sarah Marshall producer, Shauna Robertson in 2007 and were engaged by 2010 with their first child, daughter Lincoln, born in 2013. The pair married shortly after the birth of their first child and welcomed their second daughter, Delta, at the end of 2014. From the moment they went public with their romance, Kristen and Dax have always maintained an honest connection with their fans, sharing their ups and downs personally and as a couple often – including struggles with substance abuse and mental health. Back in 2019, the Parenthood actor hinted at his relationship with the Frozen star being far from smooth sailing. “We definitely had to work really hard at being a couple because we’re both incredibly, painfully stubborn, and we’re pretty much opposites,” he told People. “I was like, ‘That’s the best personality I’ve ever seen on a woman. I need to be around it. I want to be around it when I’m 80, but how?’” Now celebrating their 12th year together, the couple have obviously been able to work it out, it appears as though they just need to finesse reading the room when it comes to being so candid, so publicly. The month of October is recognised as a month to reflect on domestic violence and remember those victims worldwide who have fallen victim to it. In Australia, around 1 in 4 women and 1 in 8 men have experienced violence from an intimate partner or family member since the age of 15. While she has been urged to edit her caption, the star is yet to apologise for her post that has been deemed so offensive to many.
