Baffled Kris Boyd has gone public with what he heard about Rangers "shambolic" manager search after Danny Rohl's appointment. The former Sheffield Wednesday boss landed the top job following Steven Gerrard's decision to pull out of the running for the job due to the "timing" of a return to Glasgow for the title-winning Rangers boss despite days of talks. Shanghai Port boss Kevin Muscat was also in the running and had entered into contract negotiations with the Glasgow giants but would drop out of the running due to the club and the Chinese Super League boss being unable to green light an early exit. Less than 24 hours after the Australian dropped out of the running, Rohl would be appointed in the hot seat. The German would take his first game in charge on Thursday in the Europa League thumping at the hands of Brann Bergen. And Boyd was put on the spot about what he has heard about the search by Soccer Saturday host Simon Thomas. He quizzed: “Let’s talk about the process, a process that saw Gerrard and Muscat walking away from what we understood to be fairly advanced talks, why’s it been so shambolic?” The Rangers hero responded: “I don’t know – I don’t think anybody does other than the people behind the scenes. There’s a lot of unrest at the club in regards to Kevin Thelwell and Patrick Stewart from the fans. He then addressed the scenes at Bergen Airport - which saw CEO Patrick Stewart and sporting director Kevin Thelwell confronted by raging punters: “What happened at the airport on Thursday night, it’s not what you want to see. "Fans are questioning and they have every right to because the recruitment hasn’t been anywhere near the level it has to be to be successful.“ The £8million signing of Youssef Chermiti also landed a scathing verdict, with Boyd noting: “Chermiti’s been brought in from Everton and I don’t see it. I really don’t see it. “I know he’s a young boy, but for that kind of money, you have to come in and rip the league up. He’s not scored, he’s not looked like scoring, so the recruitment is questionable.“ And he would round off with the information he unearthed about the prolonged search for a boss: “ Steven Gerrard , we heard at the time it was the timing, but he jumped on a plane from Bahrain to London in six hours. "What’s changed? For me, it was obviously something behind the scenes.
