Accounting firm KPMG has achieved a top certification for protecting its employees’ mental health.
The Mindful Employer Certification Programme, offered by the Bermuda Mental Health Foundation, teaches businesses how to create psychologically safe working environments.
The company received a gold standard certification and stands as the fifth company in Bermuda to do so.
James Berry, the head of KPMG’s Bermuda branch, said: “KPMG recognises that tackling mental health challenges requires global best practices and community collaboration to build a more accessible, stigma-free care system.
“We continue to move forward with initiatives that support mental wellness and prevention and supports dialogue.”
Mr Berry said the firm had 13 “mental health allies” who completed mental health first aid training through the Bermuda Hospitals Board.
James Macdonald, the BMHF’s board chairman, commended KPMG on reaching the gold level of the MECP.
He said the firm’s leadership reflected how organisations could “integrate mental health into the fabric of their business practices” and “contribute to a broader culture of care in Bermuda”.
Vaughn Mosher, the BMHF’s director and a mental health and Employee Assistance Programme professional, said that prioritising mental health in the workplace boosted productivity and wellbeing while reducing healthcare costs.
He added: “By investing in training and development programmes that emphasise mental health, KPMG in Bermuda are equipping their employees with the skills and knowledge needed to foster a healthier and more productive work environment.”
