Koge Road: A Lifeline for SSY District

The people of Sinesine-Yongomugl (SSY) District in Simbu Province are seeing real changes in their lives as major road projects continue under the leadership of local MP Kerenga Kua and his District Administrator Obert Waure.

One of the landmark projects, the Dumun–Koge Road, has become a vital link not only for SSY but also for communities in neighboring Salt-Nomane Karamui District.

This 5-kilometers road stretch from Dumun Junction to Koge Village, once known for its poor condition, is now sealed – a development that is transforming daily life for ordinary people.

Through national planning, Sinasina Yongomugl District has secured K22 million in funding, which is being invested into vital infrastructure. Despite serving as an opposition MP, Mr Kua, with the support of his vibrant District Administrator Mr Waure and the hardworking district administration team, has pushed ahead with tangible developments for his people.

Menda Mambo , a small business vendor who sells betelnut, cigarettes, flex cards, and other store goods, recalled how bad road conditions used to make travel impossible.

“Before, vehicles could not travel from Dumun Junction to Koge. People walked long distances carrying their market goods. Even those living deep inside Koge and towards Salt-Nomane Karamui also suffered. But now , with the sealed road, many PMVs and buses run daily. My business is flowing well, and I am very thankful.” he said.

Joel Kadoi, a Grade 12 student at Muaina Secondary School, said the road upgrade has made travel to and from school much easier.

“Before 2023, it was really a struggle. But now it’s quicker and less stressful to travel every day. We are very thankful and we look forward to more developments in SSY.”

The Dumun–Koge Road is strategically important because it connects two LLGs within SSY – Sauia and Tabare – while also serving the neighboring Salt-Nomane Karamui District.

District Administrator Mr Waure said the vision is to extend road sealing even further.

“We are planning to seal all the way from Dumun Junction to Koge and then on to Kunangi. In Yongomugl LLG, the sealing will continue from Mogl to Kagai and all the way to Mai. “Unfortunately, because our MP is in the Opposition, resources are limited and we have not yet reached these areas. It is very sad to see our people still traveling on bumpy, broken roads. But we will not give up – we will continue pushing for better infrastructure for our district.”

He said for many people in the district , the sealed Dumun–Koge Road is more than just infrastructure – it is hope, opportunity, and a sign of progress.
