Kiss legend hospitalized, concert is cancelled

Kiss founding member Ace Frehley has cancelled an upcoming gig after taking a spill in his home studio, Guitar Player reported.
The spill took place on Sept. 25.
The Space Ace’s team made the announcement to fans online.
“Dear Rock Soldiers, Ace had a minor fall in his studio, resulting in a trip to the hospital. He is fine, but against his wishes, his doctor insists that he refrain from travel at this time,” a statement read.
The statement continues, “As a result, he is forced cancel his performance at the Antelope Valley Fair in Lancaster, California on Friday, September 26th. Please go to the fair to support his friends in Quiet Riot and Vixen, and Ace looks forward to continuing on his tour and finishing work on his next album, “Origins Vol. 4.”
During his tenure in Kiss, lead guitarist Frehley was known for taking spills, including when his high-heeled boots would occasionally trip him up on stage.
Bandmates Paul Stanley or Gene Simmons would often come and play over the fallen Frehley, making it seem like the tumble was part of the show.
“I used to fall a lot in those boots,” Frehley told Music Radar earlier this year. “A lot of times. Paul would cover for me by walking over to me like it was part of the show. He made it look like it was choreography or something.
“If nobody realized I’d fallen, I play on my knees and get back up. It was just part of the show!”
Frehley last played on Staten Island in 2018, appearing at the St. George Theatre.
Speaking with the Advance ahead of the show, Frehley talked about potentially reuniting once again with his former Kiss bandmates.
“It’s been 15 years but over the last two years, I’ve kind of reconnected with Paul and Gene,” he said. “I reconnected with Paul on the track ‘Fire and Water’ [on ‘Origins Vol. I’]. He actually shot a video with me. So that was a lot of fun and it was good to reconnect with an old buddy. And then more recently, I did two songs with Gene for this new studio record that will be coming out. And then I did a [Hurricane Harvey] charity event with Gene in Minneapolis. That was a big success. And just a couple of weeks ago, I was with Gene, he invited me to come up to Los Angeles because he was doing an event for ‘The Vault’ [CD box set], and he wanted me to come up and perform with him. And we exchanged some great stories. We had a lot of fun.”
Frehley’s next concert is slated for Oct. 10 in Decatur, Ill.
