We have all experienced difficult moments in the kitchen that have left us completely clueless. And it appears the monarch is no different, having been completely baffled by cling film and reportedly ‘shrieked’ upon first encountering it.
Writer Tom Bower penned a biography about Prince Philip, entitled Rebel Prince, and within its pages he recounted a tale concerning the late royal’s son, King Charles III. According to the story, the then prince allegedly “shrieked” and “trembled” during his initial encounter with cling film.
Bower claims that among Prince Philip’s concerns regarding Charles was his detachment from everyday life, which became particularly evident during his struggle with the plastic wrap. Fortunately, spouse Camilla Parker Bowles was present to calm his anxiety, reports the Mirror.
The book reads: “He walked into the dining room and shrieked. Fearing the worst, Camilla dashed in after him. ‘What’s this?’ asked her husband, pointing at the food. ‘It’s cling film, darling,’ she replied.”
The segment was first published in the Guardian, but Clarence House declined to comment on the book’s release. Without official comment, we do not know whether Charles really did squeal at discovering cling film – or indeed other stories from Rebel Prince are fact or fiction. Either way, it is a compelling read, reports the Mirror.
Bower’s revelations include Charles’ fondness for changing clothes – reportedly up to four times a day – and his 120-strong staff. The former Prince of Wales also has a strict daily routine, with his ex-press secretary spilling the beans on how he skips lunch but takes a break at 5pm for sandwiches, before working until midnight.
Despite enjoying the finer things in life, the King is known to be particular about everything – from having his shoelaces ironed to specific requests for his bath water.
