A lip reader has revealed King Charles’ succinct two-word response to Donald Trump’s speech at the grand state banquet held in Windsor Castle . During his address, the 79-year-old US President appeared to deviate from the script, making several political comments – a move considered unusual during state banquets, particularly in the presence of the monarch. However, with his prepared remarks in hand, Trump seemed to launch an unexpected critique of his predecessor, Joe Biden. Positioned between Charles and Kate Middleton at the 47-metre long table, Trump, who is currently on his historic second state visit, turned to the King and said: “We are, as a country, as you know, doing unbelievably well.” He went on to say: “We had a very…sick country one year ago, and today I believe we’re the hottest country anywhere in the world. In fact, nobody’s even questioning it…but we owe so much of that to you.” Following his speech, which was also attended by other royals such as Prince William and Queen Camilla, to who Trump also paid tribute, the national anthem God Save the King was played. As guests took their seats to commence the banquet, the King and the former US President were seen engaged in conversation. Lip reader Jeremy Freeman couldn’t decipher everything that was said but did pick up on a potent two-word remark from Charles that perhaps perfectly encapsulated his reaction to Trump’s words. According to Jeremy, Charles simply responded: “Thank you.” During his address, Trump heaped praise on Prince William, declaring: “His Majesty has also raised a remarkable son in His Royal Highness, Prince of Wales, really amazing, we’ve gotten to know you, and I think you’ll be an unbelievable success in the future.” He went on to say that he and First Lady Melania were “delighted to visit again with Prince William and see Princess Catherine, so radiant, so healthy, so beautiful”. Reflecting on Anglo-American relations, he declared: “Together, we’ve done more good for humanity than any two countries in all of history. “Together, we must defend the exceptional heritage that makes us who we are and we must continue to stand for the values and the people of the English-speaking world, and we do indeed stand for that. On behalf of all Americans, I offer a toast to one of the great friendships.” Among the distinguished guests were Trump’s son-in-law Mark Boulos, accompanied by his wife Tiffany Trump. Prime Minister Keir Starmer attended the event alongside Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch. Earlier, His Majesty delivered his own remarks celebrating the “special relationship” that unites both countries. He reflected: “We have celebrated together, mourned together and stood together in the best and worst of times.” The monarch concluded: “The ocean may still divide us, but in so many other ways we are now the closest of kin.”
