A Ghanaian man recounted a frightening and elaborate scam he allegedly fell victim to after offering a woman a lift to her destination with good intentions.
In a video sparking mixed reactions online, the unnamed man narrated that while he had closed from work at Amasaman, he had met the woman who pleaded for a lift to Pokuase.
He stated that, unbeknownst to him, the woman had planned to extort him under the guise of an emergency. As soon as he arrived in Pokuase, the woman allegedly refused to get out of the vehicle and demanded money.
Man allegedly scammed after offering lady lift
According to him, after a back-and-forth confrontation in his car, the situation quickly escalated when several men, seemingly in on the scam, approached the vehicle.
The woman allegedly falsely accused the kind man of having hired her for the night and demanded payment.
He explained that the men and a growing crowd pressured him, ignoring his claims of innocence. They insisted that he negotiate a payment with her.
Fearing for his safety as the crowd became more aggressive, the man was ultimately forced to send GH₵700 to the woman.
The Ghanaian man, as such, decided to caution other men to be extremely careful when offering lifts to strangers, as what starts as an act of kindness can quickly turn into a dangerous and costly ordeal.
