It's been more than a year since Queen of Tears became a global phenomenon and dominated Netflix charts; however, the wait game for Kim Ji Won's K-drama comeback continues. In 2026, the Hallyu actress will greet viewers in Doctor X: Age of the White Mafia, a medical thriller series. For some more good news, Kim Ji Won is also in talks to headline a period drama, which has a Queen of Tears connection... Queen of Tears actress Kim Ji Won's upcoming K-drama Kim Ji Won is in talks to star in Detective Park Mi-ok, a period drama. The exciting new K-drama is centred on the real-life Park Mi-ok, Korea's first female detective. Detective Park Mi-ok is being directed by Kim Hee Won, who co-directed Queen of Tears and Crash Landing on You. The script is being written by Jung Seokyung, Park Chan Wook's frequent collaborator and the writer of Kim Hee Won's K-dramas, Little Women and Tempest. During a prior interaction, Jung Seo Kyung and Kim Hee Won had expressed their intentions to reunite for a new K-drama, which turned out to be Detective Park Mi-ok. A source shared with Sports Chosun, “Writer Jung Seo Kyung has delivered an early draft of her developing script to Kim Ji Won.” On the casting report, Kim Ji Won's agency HighZium Studio commented to Star News Korea, via Soompi: "Detective Park Mi-ok is one of the projects she has received an offer for and is currently reviewing.” Jung Seo Kyung is reportedly in the early stages of penning the script, while Kim Ji Won was envisioned to play the titular role of Park Mi-ok from the development phase itself. Interestingly, Detective Park Mi-ok marks Kim Ji Won's first collaboration with Jung Seo Kyung. Kim Ji Won is expected to join Detective Park Mi-ok after she completes filming for Doctor X: Age of the White Mafia. While Detective Park Mi-ok is still in its early stages of scripting and is likely to be of the crime thriller genre, all eyes are currently on Doctor X: Age of the White Mafia. In the SBS drama, Kim Ji Won plays Gye Soojung, a genius surgeon in a state of self-exile owing to her dark past. The fearless Soojung fights against a corrupt world using nothing but her exceptional surgical skills. Interestingly, in an interview with Cosmopolitan Korea, Kim Ji Won touched upon the kind of projects she wants to take up in the future: “If given the opportunity, I will do my best no matter what, but when I look into the distant future, I think it would be great if I could leave behind a project of the action thriller genre because I really enjoyed watching Netflix’s Money Heist and the film Chinatown.”
