Mahabubabad: A kidney patient who was shockingly mistaken for dead and shifted to the mortuary at the Government General Hospital here last week, died late on Monday while undergoing treatment. V Ravi, a native of Jayyaram village in Chinna Gudur mandal, had reached the hospital seeking treatment for a kidney ailment but was allegedly denied admission as he had no attendant and did not possess an Aadhaar card. With nowhere to go, Ravi remained on the hospital canteen premises for three days, his condition worsening until he collapsed. Last Wednesday night, hospital staff assumed Ravi had died and shifted him to the mortuary. The horror came to light the next morning when sweepers noticed movement, alerted the police, and had him shifted to the acute medical care unit, where he battled for life before succumbing on Monday. The incident last week triggered outrage across the district. Health Minister Damodar Raja Narasimha ordered a probe, following which Director of Medical Education Dr A Narendra Kumar constituted a three-member committee comprising senior professors from different medical colleges. The committee visited the hospital earlier this week to record statements and assess lapses. Two outsourcing staff have since been dismissed on charges of negligence.
