AKRON, Ohio – Kid Chauffeur Express owner Sierra Young knows all too well the struggle of trying to work full-time and get her kids where they need to go. “I either would have to leave work early or miss out on things,” Young, a Firestone High School graduate, told cleveland.com and The Plain Dealer. Young realized that other parents faced the same dilemma. So she left her corporate job in 2017 and started a ride service for children–Kid Chauffeur Express. The Akron-based business offers children ages 4-17 rides to and from school and to and from extracurricular activities–all day, every day, according to Young. All Kid Chauffeur Express drivers have passed BCI and FBI background checks, along with a license check. They also are required to have full insurance coverage with a ride-sharing endorsement, according to Young. “We have mandatory meet-and-greet meetings with the child, parents and driver so each child knows who will be picking them up and the vehicle that they drive. All drivers also have Kid Chauffeur Express logos on their vehicle’s front window,” Young said. For one local family, Kid Chauffeur Express has been a blessing. “We wouldn’t know where we would be right now if we didn’t have Sierra and her services,” Akron resident Krystal Legnasky said. Legnasky and her husband both work full time, she said. While they can drop their middle-school-aged son off at school in the mornings, neither can pick him up when the school days end. The Legnaskys have been using the chauffeur service since 2022. “Sierra has been great with communication, and all the drivers we’ve absolutely loved. They are definitely a godsend, for sure,” Legnasky said. For parents who may be hesitant to use a ride service for their children, Legnasky recommends meeting with Young to learn more about Kid Chauffeur Express. “There are background checks, and you get to meet the driver. We’ve never had an issue with a driver or any concerns,” she said. The cost of the service depends on mileage and whether the driver has to enter a school for pick up, for example. The service costs the Legnaskys $11 per day, according to Legnasky. Young currently employs 15 drivers who serve more than 100 children in the Akron and Canton areas. She has plans to expand into the Cleveland area, she said. Services are available for set weekly schedules or one-off routes, according to Young.
