KHMH Urges Public to Help End Gun Violence in Belize City

While the Belize Police Department has chosen to remain silent on the recent spike in gang-related murders, tonight, the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital Authority is weighing in on the spate of gun violence that has gripped Belize City. A release from the hospital says, quote, “every day our doctors, nurses, and staff dedicate themselves to saving lives, comforting families, and restoring health. Yet, we are increasingly confronted with the painful reality of interpersonal violence in our streets, homes and communities…and sometimes even at our hospital doors”, unquote. The release notes that every bullet fired, and stab wound, creates indiscriminate ripples that extend far beyond its target, to families, health workers, police officers and the nation. The hospital is calling on every member of the public to join them in being a part of the solution to the violence plaguing the city. It says that violence does not solve problems, it tears communities and families apart, while endangering children, traumatizing survivors and overwhelming health care systems.
