KFPL offering a variety of programs during Canadian Library Month

The Kingston Frontenac Public Library (KFPL) is marking Canadian Library Month with programs and special activities that bring people of all ages together to learn and express how libraries have made a difference in their lives.
According to a release from KFPL, Canadian Library Month takes place every October, and this year’s theme, Libraries for Life, celebrates the ways libraries enrich communities and foster lifelong learning. In Ontario, the first week of October features First Nation Public Library Week (October 6-10), and the third week of October is Ontario Public Library Week (October 19-25), the library stated.
“Libraries have incredible power to transform communities, and Canadian Library Month celebrates exactly that,” said Laura Carter, CEO & Chief Librarian.
“It’s our moment to recognize how libraries change lives every day. KFPL creates spaces where creativity flourishes, connections form, and learning never stops—no matter your age. Join us this October and share your own library story.”
In the release, KFPL encourages everyone to visit their local library branch to contribute to the Canadian Library Month Story Wall or share their story online for a chance to win library swag.
Beyond gathering stories, the local library will host a variety of engaging programs throughout October. KFPL detailed the October programs as follows:
On Saturday, Oct. 4, KFPL invites the community to Repair It! at the Central Branch. From 2 to 4 p.m., bring your broken items and learn hands-on repair skills from a volunteer fixer. Everyone is welcome, even if you don’t have an item that needs repairing.
For nature lovers, KFPL and Sheila Nemcsok will host a Foraging Walk on Tuesday, Oct. 7, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Wolfe Island Branch. Discover edible plants and learn about the natural environment. This event will take place outdoors; registration is required.
Music and community come together on Saturday, Oct.18, at Vibrant Voices. From 1 to 3 p.m. at the Central Branch, participants ages 13 and up will share in a joyful song circle celebrating 2SLGBTQIA+ and gender expansive voices! Everyone, including friends and allies, is welcome.
KFPL will also host Portraits by Primary Schoolers on Monday, Oct. 20, at Calvin Park Branch. From 6 to 6:45 p.m., older adults will be paired with primary school children, who will paint their portraits in this multi-generational celebration of art and connection. Registration is required for this program.
On Tuesday, Oct. 21, families are invited to Intergenerational Storytime at the Grace Centre in Sydenham. From 10:30 to 11 a.m., children and older adults will share stories, songs and meaningful moments together.
Inclusive storytelling continues on Wednesday, Oct. 22, with Stories, Together! at the Calvin Park Branch from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Community members are invited to join H’art Centre, Extend-a-Family, and New Leaf Link participants for an inclusive and engaging storytime suitable for all ages.
The month also features opportunities for book lovers to connect at Books and Beans on Saturday, Oct. 25, from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Come to the Central Branch for coffee, treats and a relaxed discussion. This month’s topic is libraries and books about books!
For families with young children, KFPL is offering Rhythm & Rhyme: Special Intergenerational Edition! on Thursday, Oct. 2, 9, and 16 at the Central Branch from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Children will enjoy stories, songs and movement alongside special guests from St. Lawrence Place Retirement Home.
