Keshav Murugesh of WNS Global expects headcount numbers to keep growing

WNS Global expects headcount numbers to keep growing as the company enters the final stages of its $3.3 billion merger deal with Capgemini. Speaking during the opening of the company’s new office in Hiranandani Business Park, Thane, Mumbai, Keshav Murugesh said the final approval is likely to be in place by October-end after which both companies will integrate and talk about structuring.

“On this side of the business, which you call BPM, hardly 25-30 per cent is penetrated; 70 per cent is the white space. The total addressable market is massive. Constantly attacking that addressable market will grow revenue and headcount. So as long as the company is growing, headcount and technology, has to be subservient to humankind. There has to be a man behind the steering wheel,” he said, adding that the company will also bring in new employees in the Thane office over a period of time as well as across the 13 countries where WNS functions.

The new facility at spans 255,578 sq. ft and has a total capacity of 5,000 seats and will be accessible to employees with a phased move-in approach. WNS will continue to retain its office in suburban Vikhroli, where the company’s journey began in 1996.

Murugesh also anticipated a delinking of revenue and headcount, where revenue will grow faster than the headcount. However, when asked whether merging with IT companies is the way to go, he said, “I don’t know about that. We believe that all infrastructure and technology stacks along with operations are going to come together. We would like to be seen as the frontrunner in terms of this model in the marketplace. The reality is if you look at it from a customer’s point of view, you will want to work with a partner who is leading with business conversations and has a very large, strong balance sheet.”
