Kerala Govt Allocates ₹200 Crore More for Post-Matric Scholarships to Support OEC Students

The Kerala government has announced an additional allocation of Rs 200 crore for the post-matric scholarship distribution aimed at students from the Other Eligible Communities (OEC) category. This decision was made public on Friday by the Finance Minister of Kerala, K N Balagopal. With this new funding, the total scholarship allocation for the current year has reached Rs 5,326 crore. This amount includes provisions for students from Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC), in addition to the OEC category. Last year, the government initially budgeted Rs 40 crore for scholarships but ultimately distributed approximately Rs 358 crore, which also covered arrears from previous allocations. The additional funding reflects the government's commitment to supporting the educational needs of students from marginalised communities. The increased allocation aims to address the rising demand for scholarships and ensure that students receive the necessary financial aid to pursue their education. The Kerala government has consistently prioritised educational support for underprivileged groups. During the previous administration, a significant amount of Rs 3,853 crore was allocated for scholarships, highlighting the ongoing efforts to enhance educational opportunities for all segments of society. This initiative not only underscores the importance of education but also reinforces the government's dedication to social equity. By allocating substantial funds for post-matric scholarships, the Kerala government aims to empower students from the OEC category, ensuring they have the resources needed to succeed in their academic pursuits. Educational Support in Focus The commitment to education remains a cornerstone of the Kerala government's policies. As the state continues to invest in scholarships for various categories, it aims to create a more inclusive educational environment. The recent allocation of Rs 200 crore is a testament to this ongoing effort, ensuring that no deserving student is left behind.
