Kelley Wolf is looking to set the record straight amid a culture of what she believes to be “misinformation” about mental health.
Just days after claiming on Instagram that the drama surrounding her divorce from Scott Wolf has left her “malnourished” and that she is being “treated like a crazy woman,” Kelley, 48, used her Instagram feed to go into more detail about her mental health.
“I’ve only seen a psychiatrist three times in my entire life—each time connected to being involuntarily taken to a hospital during this brutal and unexpected process I have endured,” she wrote in the caption to a Friday, September 19, post.
She added, “Being placed in psychiatric hospitals against my will does not mean I am ‘mentally ill’ or ‘on drugs.’ What it does mean is that I’ve been fighting for my rights through a painful summer and year.”
Kelley also warned followers that she would pursue any “attacks on myself or my family” in a way that allows her to “move on from a very dark and confusing chapter.”
“I wish all of you nothing but love and hope and compassion,” she concluded her post. “The reason many of us devote our lives to taking care of others [is] because we’ve been through hell ourselves. There’s no reason to continue hurting one another when we have so much beautiful life to live. I encourage you to keep fighting for what you believe in and remember that you deserve only great things in life. We have this one beautiful and precious life. Make sure you use it well.”
Wolf noted in her Instagram Story, which she posted on Thursday, that she has been sober for 10 years despite daily temptations and is following Alcoholics Anonymous’ mantra of “one day at a time.”
Her posts come after she was charged with a misdemeanor when Scott, 57, accused her of violating a protective order in late August that restricted her from contacting her son.
Kelley allegedly used “a friend’s phone” to try and contact one of her sons “through a friend’s son,” according to court documents obtained by Us Weekly on September 12.
“I am utterly shocked [for] the unabating aggressive use of a legal system and possibly more,” she said in a statement to People at the time. “[It] has become almost intolerable to my physical body, my family’s health and well-being period. I’m unclear as to how these things are allowed to be processed. I have [allegedly] been compliant with everything legal, I have said nothing disparaging about anyone at any time. I’d like to also state for anyone who doesn’t seem to understand — that divorce can take time. Anyone who continues to put pressure on a mother when all she’s doing is fighting for her children is somebody who needs to check themselves.”
Kelley said in her Instagram Story on Thursday that she is “looking for a lawyer.” She and Scott share sons Jackson, 16, and Miller, 12, as well as daughter Lucy, 11.
“I am ready to fight for my reputation and my family,” she wrote in her story. “I am not crazy.”
“For anyone asking,” she continued on a separate slide, “I have begged my family and close friends for help with my health and heartbreak and when a world believes a false narrative of ‘crazy drug addict,’ even well meaning people will be swayed to hate. It’s a classic tactic to hurt the ones who are naive and kind, like me.”
Kelley then wrote that she was ready to seek help.
“Tomorrow I will walk into a hospital. Voluntarily. Sober. Drug free. 97 pounds. With heels on,” she wrote. “Because, when someone tells you you can’t leave…say…SHUT THE HECK UP!”
