Keetmans volleyball club eye home advantage ahead of crucial Round 7

Keetmanshoop Correctional Facility Volleyball Club (KCFVC) will enter round seven of the MTC Volleyball National League (VNL) with a near-home advantage, as they compete at the Danie Joubert Tennis Courts in Mariental.

Coach Elia Paulus says the close proximity and supportive atmosphere could play a key role this weekend.

“Playing at Mariental is always a special experience,” she says.

“The energy and support from the crowd lifts our players and creates a motivating atmosphere. Most definitely, it gives us an edge, and we are looking forward to using this to our advantage this weekend.”

KCFVC face NDF Raptors and Nampol Volleyball Club later on the same day.

Paulus says the fixtures won’t be easy.

“Nampol is a well-structured and experienced team, so we know we need to be at our best. Our technical focus is solid serves, good reception, minimising unforced errors and applying consistent pressure through strong blocks and quick transmissions.

“We are also working on better communication and adapting quickly during rallies. This match is crucial, and we are preparing both mentally and physically,” he says.

Assessing his team’s season so far, Paulus says: “It’s been a season of ups and downs. My players were not all based in one location, so I am still working on putting the team together. But it’s not too late, we just have to iron out some things. The key players are now at Keetmanshoop, and we are focusing on improving as a unit,” he adds.

When asked about standout players, Paulus highlights Simpson, Haufiku and their setter Mashlo, along with Shekinah, who is known for his versatility as a blocker and setter.

Looking ahead to the weekend, Paulus is realistic about expectations. “We are facing NDF Raptors first, then Nampol. A successful weekend for us would ideally mean taking even one win. These are strong teams, but I know Nampol’s style from my time there, so I will do my best to come out with a win,” he says.

He encourages fans to support the games.

“Volleyball is a lifestyle, a song. People will come to support local players and young talents. Even if they are not deeply involved in the sport, it’s good to come, enjoy and share the joy with the players. We hope the excitement on the court will reach the fans in the stands.”

Beyond KCFVC, the MTC VNL heads into round seven with high-stakes matches.

Log leaders Namibia Correctional Service extended their unbeaten run to 12 matches after a thrilling 3–2 win over NDF-R last week, moving to 35 points.

NDF-R, with 24 points, faces Mighty Gunners Sports club (MGSC) and Afrocat sports club (ASC-C), while NPV has a double-header against KCFC and ASC-C. MGSC, with 8 points, will be desperate for an upset as they fight for relegation survival.

In the women’s division, unbeaten table-toppers Revival Volleyball Club face Namibia Defence force Phoenix (NDF-P) and Nampol Otjozondjupa Volleyball Club, while NDF-P on 25 points and NPV with 23 points will look to consolidate top-three positions.

Games start at 09h00 after the usual police parade.
