Keegan Bradley’s Hall of Fame Aunt Sends Message Ahead of Ryder Cup Leadership

Keegan Bradley's Hall of Fame Aunt Sends Message Ahead of Ryder Cup Leadership

When Keegan Bradley was named captain of the U.S. Ryder Cup team, he stepped into a rare family legacy. His aunt, the legendary Pat Bradley, captained the American squad at the 2000 Solheim Cup, making the Bradleys the only family in golf history to have led both the Ryder Cup and Solheim Cup teams.
For those less familiar with women’s golf, Pat won 31 LPGA Tour titles over her career, including six major championships. She is one of just seven women to complete the Career Grand Slam, and has earned a place in both the World Golf Hall of Fame and the LPGA Hall of Fame, the latter widely regarded as the toughest institutions of its kind in all sports.
With such an extraordinary resume, there’s no doubt Pat has given her nephew some advice regarding team management. But, with the event just around the corner, the legendary former player decided to give Keegan an emotional pep talk, and she did so with the support of all the fans.
Pat wrote an open letter to Keegan in which she blended emotional family memories with allusions to her nephew’s well-known feelings about the Ryder Cup. In a deeply intimate tone, Pat urged him to lead from the emotions he has felt about this event since he was a child.
“I hope you remember sitting on your dad’s shoulders all those years ago. I hope you take that little boy with you to the first tee at Bethpage. Let him feel the energy of the crowd. Let him embrace this moment. Let him see how far he’s come,” Pat wrote in her letter, which she read on camera for a video posted to YouTube by the LPGA.
“And always remember that no matter the outcome, your Aunt Pat loves and believes in you,” she added. “I know you can do this. Show them what us Bradleys are made of. Show them who you are. And bring the Ryder Cup home!”
Keegan will be in Bethpage Black, New York, starting next Monday, leading the American team to the Ryder Cup, although the competitive portion of the event begins on Friday. Before that, there will be several practice rounds and a Pro-Am event, in which players from both teams will participate.
