Katie Taylor hints at major announcement as she teases next career move

Katie Taylor appears to be primed to keep on fighting after teasing a major announcement on her social media channels. Taylor hasn’t fought since July when she beat Amanda Serrano for the third time, and since then, there has been rampant speculation on her future. She was expected by many to retire after the trilogy fight, and was even forced to relinquish one of her world championship titles after she failed to enter into negotiations with mandatory challenger Chantelle Cameron. This led many to believe that her fighting days were over, but in a new teaser video posted to her Instagram account, Taylor has strongly hinted that her fighting days are not yet over. In the video, throwing punches to the body of a man wearing protective gear. Captioning the video, Taylor wrote “Big things in the works…Stay tuned.” This is the second training video that Taylor has shared in the space of a week, and it appears as though the Wicklow native is keeping herself in excellent shape during her time out of the ring. At 39-years-old, many believed Taylor would call it a day after her most recent Serrano fight, especially as that win in July ended the trilogy 3-0 in the favour of the Irishwoman. There doesn’t appear to be too many potential opponents for Katie should she carry on. With Serrano in her rear-view mirror, Chantelle Cameron seems the most plausible opponent, but having squared off with the Northampton native twice in 2023, Taylor may not fancy a third bout with the only woman to beat her as a professional. Even promoter Eddie Hearn seems unsure of Katie’s future, telling Sky Sports in the Summer that perhaps a fight at Croke Park would be the only thing that would keep Taylor in boxing. “She’s got a few injuries at the moment. She won’t fight again this year and she may not fight again. But if the Croke Park opportunity presents itself, it would be very difficult for her to turn down,” said Hearn. Regardless of whether the 39-year-old keeps fighting or not, she will be kept extremely busy in her personal life. Taylor recently married American real estate agent Sean McCavanagh and has become stepmother to his five children from a previous marriage.
