The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) has witnessed a shift in its administrative ranks with Katherine Wells taking the helm at Emanuel Probation Detention Center. Effective today, Wells steps into the role of Superintendent, shouldering the responsibility for the center’s staff and the supervision of its male offenders, as announced by GDC Commissioner Tyrone Oliver. The GDC’s confidence in her vast experience and professionalism positions Wells as a fitting choice to steer Emanuel PDC’s future.
“Katherine has worked her way up through the ranks and excelled at each position she has held,” Oliver remarked. Wells’ rise from a Correctional Officer at Rivers State Prison (SP) in 2001 to Deputy Warden at Hancock SP is a tale of sustained progression. Her shift to Emanuel PDC marks yet another stride in a career characterized by methodical advancements, as noted by GDC.
Charting the odyssey of her career, Wells began at Rivers SP, initially serving as a Correctional Officer before ascending to roles such as Secretary in the File Room and an Accounting Clerk, as gleaned from the GDC press release. Possessing a determination that saw her traverse the geographies of multiple roles, Wells later became an Account Paraprofessional in 2012 and then moved on to the position of Business Manager at Washington SP in 2015.
The most recent leap in her career before taking charge at Emanuel PDC was her 2018 promotion to Deputy Warden of Administration at Hancock SP. During her diverse journey, Wells has fortified her expertise with extensive departmental training, including courses such as Basic Correctional Officer Training and various managerial programs, all of which have endorsed her readiness to embrace the challenges of her latest position as shared by the GDC.
