Kate Middleton shocked Sainsbury's shoppers with Halloween dash

Prince William and Princess Kate are destined to become the future King and Queen, but their primary roles are as devoted parents to their three children — Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. The Prince and Princess of Wales have often spoken openly about their parenting style , describing themselves as very hands-on when it comes to their children’s upbringing, education, and extracurricular activities. They are frequently seen doing the school drop-off or accompanying their kids to sports practices. Their involvement also extends to more everyday moments. On one occasion, Princess Kate was spotted at her local Sainsbury’s, picking up last-minute Halloween costumes for George and Charlotte. In 2019, Kate made the relatable dash to the supermarket with Prince George and Princess Charlotte by her side. Fellow shopper Kathy Whittaker was stunned to see the royal , accompanied by a bodyguard, doing something so ordinary. "Another shopper said that Kate was in the shop near the clothing and pointed where she was to me. I just couldn't believe it," Kathy, a mum of four, said. At the Hardwick Industrial Estate branch in Norfolk, Kate was seen asking her children what they wanted to dress up as before heading to the self-checkout to complete her purchases, reports the Mirror. "She was with Charlotte and George looking at Halloween outfits but her bodyguard was kind of watching people with phones and telling them no pictures. I managed to get the photo as she was at the self-service checkout. You just don't expect it to happen, you think Kate would shop in Waitrose or Harrods," Kathy said. This wasn’t the only time Kate has been seen shopping in everyday stores. In 2018, she was spotted browsing The Range, a discount shop in King’s Lynn, and again in 2020 at another Sainsbury's near her Norfolk home, Anmer Hall. While Kate clearly takes her children’s Halloween excitement seriously, in earlier years she and William have been known to mark the occasion in a much simpler way. Former royal butler Grant Harrold once recalled a 2009 Halloween celebration at Balmoral, telling Marie Claire that the cozy gathering was held in one of the Scottish estate’s secluded cabins — a fitting backdrop for a laid-back Halloween evening. “I and one of the other butlers kitted it all out for Halloween with cobwebs and spiders,” he recalled, before William and Kate took over, serving their guests themselves. Speaking fondly of the couple, Harrold added, “The kitchens packed up the food for William and Kate to take down [to the cabin]. They took it all down themselves, unpacking it and serving it themselves. They then washed it all back up, packed up the boxes, and brought it back up to the main house.” Guests and hosts alike enjoyed the evening’s simplicity, with Harrold noting that the Prince and Princess “didn’t do fancy dress, they were all in jeans and shirts,” proving that even royalty can appreciate a relaxed, down-to-earth Halloween celebration.
