Kate Garraway has detailed how she "gasped" during an unaired moment from Celebrity Traitors that she found a "bit weird " after her husband's death. The Good Morning Britain presenter, who was ousted in the eighth episode of the hit BBC show (the final episode is set to air on Thursday, 6 November), opened up about a "strange" unaired incident that made her do a "double-take". She recounted how she declined to carry a coffin, as it reminded her of her husband Derek Draper's tragic death. In January 2024, Derek passed away at age 56 after suffering health complications from Covid-19. Kate revealed that, during the Celebrity Traitors scene in episode two, she was walking alongside co-star Alan Carr at the time, while Celia Imrie was in front, when she "gasped" as she walked "by the coffins". Speaking to The Sun , she said: "You don't know what's coming next and so you find yourself walking on by the coffins. And I did a double-take, I gasped, and I was walking with Alan and Celia was in front of me." Kate went on to say: "And I said, 'God, I don't know whether I should carry this coffin'. And I had a chat with the production team who checked on me all the time. You know, there was a psychologist there." "But you're suddenly in the moment and I said, 'I'm not sure. I think it's a bit strange and a bit weird'." The publication further revealed that Kate received counselling from not only the show's executives but also her co-stars Alan and Celia. Yet, when she spotted that Charlotte Church and Paloma Faith were struggling with the coffin, she reportedly "stepped up". Thankfully, Kate, who would participate in the challenge, felt alright after her initial concerns. Kate's worries weren't solely about herself, though, as she also admitted she fretted about the potential effect on her children, Darcey and Billy. In February, Kate, who chronicled her husband's final year in the emotional ITV documentary Kate Garraway : Derek's Story, revealed how she was struck by a "tsunami of sadness" whilst completing a domestic chore. Speaking to Hello! , she described how she'd been putting up a picture at the time, but when she stepped back to appreciate her efforts, she thought that Derek would "love this", only to recall in the "same second". She said: "Only the other day, I finally got round to hanging a picture that's been waiting for years. Standing back, chuffed with my work, I thought: 'Derek will love this when he sees it'." She continued: "Then, in the same second, I remembered and a whole tsunami of sadness at what is lost swept over me. But seizing all the good and new that life throws at you alongside the sad is what I am focusing on and trying to model for Darcey and Billy, too."
