A local court on Tuesday remanded TVK functionary Paun Raju to judicial custody till October 14 in connection with the Karur stampede that claimed at least 41 lives on September 27.Karur City Police produced Paun Raju and TVK’s Karur West District Secretary Mathiyazhagan before the court after their medical examination. Police said Raju, who arranged flagpoles and flex banners for TVK chief Vijay’s campaign rally, was arrested for providing shelter to Mathiyazhagan, who was also taken into custody.Additional Director General of Police Davidson Devasirvatham told ANI that 41 people, including 18 women and 10 children, died in the stampede. The incident occurred when a massive crowd at Vijay’s rally turned chaotic, triggering panic. Several people fainted and were rushed to nearby hospitals.Political OutreachUnion Ministers Nirmala Sitharaman and L Murugan, along with Tamil Nadu BJP chief Nainar Nagenthran, visited the families of the victims. BJP president JP Nadda has formed an eight-member delegation, led by BJP MP Hema Malini as convenor, to assess the circumstances leading to the tragedy.
