Karnataka: Pandit K. Venkatesh Kumar to be conferred Sangeetha Vidwan Award

Doyen of Hindustani classical music Pandit K. Venkatesh Kumar will receive this year’s State Sangeetha Vidwan Award.

The prestigious award is conferred annually by the Department of Kannada and Culture during the inauguration of the Dasara cultural events in front of the palace.

Minister for Kannada and Culture Shivaraj Thangadagi, who made the announcement, said that the selection of Pt. Venkatesh Kumar for the prestigious award is a matter of joy as he is a towering figure in Hindustani classical music and has earned national and international acclaim through his remarkable singing.

The award, which carries a cash prize of ₹5 lakh, a citation, and a memento, will be presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on September 22 in front of the Mysuru palace. The selection was made by the advisory committee headed by Y.K. Muddukrishna, said the Minister.
