Minister for School Education Madhu Bangarappa on Friday felicitated 25 teachers who completed the enumeration of families allotted to them as part of the Social and Educational Survey well before the deadline.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister appreciated the work being done by the teachers as part of the survey. “The Social and Educational Survey being conducted by the Karnataka State Commission for Backward Classes is a significant survey. The teachers are playing a major role in the exercise,” he said.
So far, Mr. Bangarappa said, enumerators in Shivamogga district have covered 63.46% of the total families. The coverage in Sorab and Shikaripur taluks had crossed 60%, he added. The Minister was hopeful that the coverage would reach 100% within the deadline.
Reacting to comments made by BJP leaders, who opposed the survey, Mr. Bangarappa said that the survey was being done as per the Constitution. The court orders also stated that a survey is held every 10 years; only those who did not understand the survey’s significance were commenting against it, he added.
“The State government is upholding the fundamental principles of the Constitution. The survey is an exercise to ensure equality,” he stated.
R. Prasanna Kumar, District Congress Committee president; Ayanur Manjunath, former MP; and others were present.
