A local Congress leader was arrested on charges of sexual harassment and circulating morphed photographs of a woman, even as a video showing him being thrashed by residents went viral on social media. The accused, identified as Aditya, a former Youth Congress vice-president of Aldur Hobli in Chikkamagaluru city, was arrested on Tuesday following a complaint filed by a woman from Jayanagar. According to the police, the woman alleged that Aditya began harassing her after they became friends over the phone. He allegedly sent inappropriate messages to several women, including the wives of his acquaintances, and later edited and shared her photos taken from social media. She also claimed that the accused issued death threats to her. A few days ago, Aditya was confronted at his residence in Adishakti Nagar, where a group of youngsters allegedly assaulted him. A video of the incident has since gone viral. Police have registered a case (Crime No. 182/25) under: Sections 75(2) and 78 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Sections 67 and 67(A) of the Information Technology Act, and Section 4 of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act. Officials said a detailed probe is underway, while no separate complaint has been filed regarding the assault on the accused.
