Bengaluru: Former additional chief secretary to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, LK Atheeq, has raised concerns over unsafe and uneven roads in the city. He highlighted the poor condition of stretches on MG Road and Brigade Road, pointing out that shoddy patchwork has made them hazardous for two-wheelers. Atheeq, who resigned as Siddaramaiah’s aide in June citing personal reasons, shared his observations on X after a late-night bike ride. He suggested that minor repairs using quality materials could make the roads safe quickly. Atheeq continues to serve as chairperson of the Bengaluru Business Corridor and oversees work on the city’s peripheral ring road. Bengaluru has faced widespread criticism over deteriorating infrastructure, potholes, and congested traffic, worsened by recent rains and waterlogging. Earlier this month, a viral video showed massive craters and encroached footpaths outside Google’s Bengaluru office. In another incident, a school bus nearly toppled after slipping into slush on a pothole-ridden road. Residents across the city have staged protests highlighting these issues. In response, the Karnataka government has begun filling potholes. Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar shared pictures of ongoing road repairs, while Chief Minister Siddaramaiah set a one-month deadline for civic officers to fix all roads. Engineers have been warned that they will be held accountable if the work is delayed or of poor quality.
