A Kamloops man is dead after the car he was driving rear-ended a semi-truck southbound on Highway 5 north of Merritt. RCMP, Merritt Fire Rescue and BC Emergency Health Services all responded to the incident at about 7:45 a.m., Nov. 10. According to Cpl. Brett Urano, a semi-truck, was travelling in the slow lane when it was struck by a Honda Accord, which sent the car rolling to a stop in the ditch. Merritt Fire Rescue extracted the lone occupant of the Honda. “Despite lifesaving efforts by first responders, a Kamloops man was declared deceased at the incident,” said Cpl. Urano. “The southbound lanes on Highway 5 were closed for an extended period of time due to the incident, but have since reopened.” BC Air Ambulance was called to the scene and also landed on the highway.
