Minister for Medical Education and Skill Development and Livelihood Sharan Prakash Patil has said that the Kalyan Karnataka region has benefited significantly in the health, education and employment sectors after Article 371 (J) was implemented.
Addressing the crowd on September 17 after unfurling the national flag in Raichur while participating in the Kalyan Karnataka Utsav Day celebrations, he said, “The region was included in the Indian territory on September 17, 1948, after a military operation carried out by the then Home Minister Vallabhabhai Patel against the Hyderabad Nizam’s government. Since then, the State Government has observed Hyderabad Karnataka Liberation Day, which was later renamed Kalyan Karnataka Utsav.”
The Minister said that considering the backwardness of the region, the UPA government, under the leadership of veteran leader Mallikarjun Kharge, brought an amendment to Article 371, giving a special status to the region.
This led to thousands of students getting seats in higher education, and also educated candidates have been getting jobs. More importantly, the region has been sanctioning ₹5,000 crore every year for development projects, he said. “Around 80,000 vacant government jobs were filled, and ₹18,000 crore was sanctioned,” Dr. Patil added.
