Minister of Justice Mazhar al-Wais met Wednesday a delegation from the European Parliament, headed by Hana Jalloul Moro, vice chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee, to discuss ways to strengthen judicial cooperation between the two sides. The meeting addressed avenues for enhancing legal cooperation and exchanging expertise in developing judicial and legislative systems. Discussions also covered current legal challenges in Syria and explored mechanisms to reinforce the rule of law and human rights principles, while respecting national particularities and adhering to international standards. Minister al-Wais stressed the importance of international cooperation in advancing justice, particularly in areas such as judicial modernization, fair trial guarantees, and combating organized crime. He stressed the need to establish effective partnerships with European institutions. For her part, Moro expressed appreciation for the efforts made to improve the judicial work environment. She affirmed the European Parliament’s commitment to supporting legal dialogue and cooperation with national institutions to achieve justice and safeguard fundamental rights.
